Research area: Biodegradable delivery systems for drugs and antigens. The therapeutic areas of interest for these delivery systems encompass infections, cancer, peripheral nerve guidance and regeneration, and vaccination with established and newer immunogens and immune response enhancers.
Bruno Gander was appointed senior scientist at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at ETH Zurich (group of Galenical Pharmacy) in 1995, and was awarded the title of a Professor in 2005.
Bruno Gander was born on February 27, 1955, in CH-Immensee. He studied pharmacy at the ETH Zurich (1975-1981). Thereafter, he did an industrial training in galenical research and development at Zyma S.A. (CH-Nyon). He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Geneva (1982-1986) under Prof. Eric Doelker, Prof. Robert Gurny, and Prof. Nicholas A. Peppas); part of the Ph.D.-work was done at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN, USA). He worked 1986-1987 as a postdoc under Prof. N.B. Graham at the Department for Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, U.K.). Prior to his appointment as head-assistant at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at ETH Zurich in 1989, he held the position of a head-assistant in Galenical Pharmacy at the University of Geneva. He was appointed senior scientist in 1995 and completed his habilitation in 1999 in pharmaceutical technology and dosage forms.
